Fun Flower Facts: Ornamental Peppers

Popular for their bright fruit, ornamental peppers are a favorite in the garden during the fall.

  • The fruit comes in red, yellow, orange, purple, black, and white, and as they ripen, the colors can change—so you may see several different colors throughout the season.
  • Ornamental peppers do best in full sun. Because of this, it’s important to keep them watered in well-draining soil.
  • Plants without fruit require regular fertilizing until fruit appears; ornamental peppers don’t need additional fertilizer after that.
  • It is not recommended to eat the fruit that ornamental peppers produce. They don’t taste very pleasant and the peppers are known to be too hot to enjoy.
